An Artist’s Husband is Murdered in The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

My Review:

Pick up The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides and enjoy this mysterious psychological thriller for an easy, quick escape. It is a gripping story centered around Theo, a psychoanalyst and Alicia, an artist. Alicia’s photographer husband comes home one night and is shot in the face and killed. Alicia is the suspect and is taken away and put in a psychiatric facility where she refuses to say a word about the murder or anything else. The treatment team tries to get her talking but she remains silent and becomes physically violent so they overmedicate her to keep her weak and sedate.

Theo is an accomplished psychoanalyst who is married to the love of his life. He just landed a new job at the psychiatric facility where Alicia is being held and is enthusiastic about attempting to heal this silent patient and getting her to speak.

With lots of sketchy characters and suspicious circumstances, The Silent Patient kept me on my toes, guessing and re-evaluating what was really happening, who did it and why. I read the book in one sitting and really enjoyed this psychological thriller built around passion and obsession.

If you like this and other psychological thrillers about therapists that take place in psych facilities, you may also enjoy THE BLIND by AF Brady.
