If you need a break from reading….
You are in luck! There are a bunch of great shows to check out so snuggle up on the couch and chill watching Rob Lowe, Will Ferrell, Jason Segel, Jennifer Garner, Harrison Ford, Ali Wong and Brooke Shields. If you would like to explore books similar to the shows, click on the buttons below for suggestions.
Unstable – Rob Lowe and his son portray father and son in this silly drama about a biotech guru who is grieving the death of his wife. Eccentric doesn’t cover the weirdness of Lowe’s character but for 59 years old he is looking pretty good.
Beef – This comedy drama miniseries starring Ali Wong begins with a road rage incident, feeling a bit dark at times and satirical. But still addictive.
Wellmania – Based on Bridget Delaney’s novel, Liv has a major health scare and must get herself physically well in record time. Australian show with only 8 short episodes in the season, this is a fun watch!
Shrinking – Jason Segel and Harrison Ford portray therapists and they both are nuts! What a fun show with many laughs and a feel good vibe. Nice to see Harrison Ford in this mature role.
The Shrink Next Door – Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd and Kathryn Hahn star in this black comedy/drama miniseries about a psychiatrist and his patient. It is based on a podcast and a real life story. Enjoyable with lots of ridiculous and outrageous moments. Paul Rudd’s character sings and dances at his patient’s Bar Mitzvah and my face hurt from smiling!
The Last Thing He Told Me – based on Laura Dave’s mystery/thriller, where a man disappears and his wife and stepdaughter try to piece together what might have happened to him. The book was a quick, fun read and Jennifer Garner fans will love the show. (I miss her as Sydney Bristol in Alias!) Reese Witherspoon chose The Last Thing He Told Me for her book club and also produced this miniseries.
Dear Edward – based on Ann Napolitano’s book about the sole survivor of a plane crash and all the grieving family members. Starring 13 yr. old Colin O’Brien (who appeared on the most recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy) and Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black). The premise is sad but the show is well done and conjures feelings of hope.
Daisy Jones & the Six – musical drama series based on the book by Taylor Jenkins Reid about a fictional rock band from the 70s (reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac).
Pretty Baby – documentary about Brooke Shields, including her childhood, her relationship with her mother, and how she was sexualized as a young actress. I have always been a fan and I enjoyed the peak behind the scenes.
In the Movie Theater…
Don’t miss Air with Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris Messina, Viola Davis, Chris Tucker, Marlon Wayans and Jason Bateman. The 80s references, the music, the acting and the story made for the most entertaining movie I have seem in a long time!
